FIELD TRANSFERS AND CANCELLATIONS
North Harbour Rugby Union maintains close communication with Auckland Council and their Sports field contractors regarding ground closures or fixture restrictions on grounds. Ground closures and fixture restrictions are possible during the winter months due to poor ground conditions resulting from inclement weather. North Harbour Rugby Union will follow ground closures/restrictions as directed by the Council.
In ''general'' Senior Grade Competition Rugby will not be cancelled and fixtures will be transferred to grounds that are open. In the first instance, the transfer will be to another field at the home club or a satellite field to maintain the home and away ratio. If necessary the fixture will be transferred to the home grounds of the opposition team if no home team fields are available.
Please Note: If your team is transferred to a neutral or satellite ground it is the responsibility of the home team on the draw to dress the fields.
The various Sports field contractors will place ‘ground closed’ notices on closed sports fields or training areas. NO training or fixtures are too played on closed grounds (regardless of whether club officials have advised ground closures to team officials). Team officials should consult with club contacts if confronted with a ‘ground closed’ notice.
FIELD USAGE AND DRAW FIELD ALLOCATIONS
Leading into the rugby season NHRU Operations Staff meet with Council Booking Coordinators, Sports Park Rangers and Turf Advisors to discuss how the fields are looking, to ascertain any planned remedial works that may impact on the season and to talk about field (and possible draw) considerations.
As mentioned above, we maintain close communication with the Council and are guided by their recommendations.
To ensure the care of fields, with the hope of lengthening their seasonal use (especially fields that can become problematic in the winter months), it may be necessary to maximise or minimise preseason or early season use on certain club fields. In some cases it may even be beneficial to the Union and the Club to increase the volume of use (i.e. with preseason and early season use; or even afternoon fixtures on certain fields during winter), to ensure fields are fully utilized.
When scheduling draws NHRU will work amid Council recommendations – it is important draw field allocations are respected and adhered to by clubs.
