North Shore travelled to Warkworth and were untroubled to
beat Mahurangi 57-8 and win the Buck Shelford Shield for the first round with a
clean sweep. Takapuna finished second in
the first round beating Marist into third place at Onewa with a 30-20 win. Takapuna had a solid first half but Marist
came back strongly and with 15 minutes to go the score was 22-20 however
Takapuna pulled away to carry the day. Surprise
package of the first round Northcote with three wins in a row beat Massey at
Moire Park 23-10 with Ben Searle scoring 18 points. Western Pioneers held on to the Country Cup
with a comprehensive 28-11 win over struggling Silverdale. Down at half-time, Western scored 4
unanswered tries in the second half. Three tries to Premier grade top try scorer Jona Tuitoga assisted East
Coast Bays in downing Glenfield 32-15.
