Welcome: Tyrone Elkington-MacDonald & Saffron Nixon

North Harbour Rugby Union (NHRU) would like to formally introduce two new staff members to the community!

Tyrone Elkington-MacDonald joins NHRU as the Head of Rugby Engagement & Participation, with Saffron Nixon joining the team as NHRU’s Rugby Manager (Youth Rugby). Both of them bring excellent qualities to their respective roles and are well-equipped to Improve Lives Through Rugby.

Elkington-MacDonald joins NHRU after his five years with Harbour Sport; having become well-known to the community through his dedication as Sport Development Manager.

As a former Board member for Auckland University RFC, his leadership extends to strategic planning, governance, business planning and many more invaluable skills. Elkington-MacDonald played representative rugby for both Hawke’s Bay and Auckland.

Nixon joins NHRU in her first rugby-related position, having come from a background in sailing. Completing her time at AUT in 2022, Nixon was able to complete her Bachelor of Sport and Recreation; with a double major in both Sports Management, as well as Sport and Exercise Science.

Having previously been Head Coach at the Russell Coutts Sailing Foundation and Technical Team Coordinator, Nixon’s organisation skills and event management are set to bring the best out of Youth Rugby.
