North Harbour Rugby Union would like to express our deepest and most sincere condolences to the whānau and friends of Sean Wainui who tragically passed away this week. Sean was a beloved member of the rugby community and has touched the lives of so many players, coaches and fans during his career. Sean will forever leave a lasting impact on the game and will continue to inspire many more future rugby players.

Sean represented North Harbour and North Harbour Māori as a Junior, whilst plying his trade in school at Takapuna Grammar. Sean captained the Takapuna Grammar School 1st XV in 2013 as well as winning 'Senior Player Of The Year' for the Māori Colts as awarded by North Harbour Rugby Union.

"Sean was a lovely human being and and an extremely talented and respected sports person. From the time he arrived at TGS you could see that Sean had something special, especially on the sports field. He was a man of action who was a true leader of young men. He always trained hard, being one of the first to arrive and last to leave each day. As his rugby career grew he was happy to come back and speak to the new players when requested. He showed the local players that, even from Takapuna, if you work hard and are willing to learn and continue to grow that you can really achieve your goals and go places. Rest in Peace young man as you died way too young .. Prayers and condolences to all of his family, friends and supporters at this extremely sad time." - Simon Cheesman Takapuna Grammar 1st XV Manager

"We are all devastated by the tragic death of Sean and send our aroha to his whānau. He was a 1st XV star but more importantly Sean was an exceptional young man with incredible mana. He was genuine, kind, respectful, and to top it off cheeky - a shining example for all of our former and current students." - Will Scovell Takapuna Grammar Senior Deputy Principle
