RESULTS

24th September vs North Harbour Cardinal vs. North Harbour White - Auckland Marist - Finals Day

Harbour Cardinal 5 (Ned Barry try) vs. North Harbour White 5

Game Comments:

The final game of our representative season was played against the White side over at the Auckland Marist fields. The day started windy but the rain did come in over the period of the game. The Cardinal side started well into the wind and had about 10 minutes on attack but were not able to get any points. The White team spent long periods of the rest of this half on attack and were finally rewarded with a try and the half time lead of 0-5.The second half was a much better one for the Cardinal side who spent long periods on attack. We finally got over the line when Ned Barry recovered a deep kick and scampered down the sideline to cross. The white team then had a period camped on the Cardinal line but they were not able to cross the line. As the clocked ticked into injury time the Cardinal side were again attacking and were rewarded with two penalties. In the spirit of positive play the team turned down both shots and went for the try but were pulled up short both times. After nearly 10 mites extra time the referee called the game off with the scores tied at 5-5. This brought to an end our 2016 season and while the results were not what we had hoped, the team gelled very well and I am certain ALL the players will grow out of their experiences.

17th September vs Northland North - Kaikohe

Harbour 0 vs. Northland North 29 (half-time 0-12)

Game Comments:

The side headed up to the Winterless North for their third game but unfortunately the weather wasn’t very nice and it rained heavily throughout! The Northland side quickly adapted to the conditions and within 7 minutes had slipped over for two tries, one being converted. From then the North Harbour side worked hard in the worsening conditions and had  plenty of time on attack but were let down by handling and footwork so the half time score remained at 0-12. The second half started just like the first but the weather continued to worsen and turned to be at the back of the Northland North side. Another two tries were scored, one again converted, as the Harbour side battled bravely into the conditions. While the Harbour side battled into the worsening conditions they were not able to gain enough control over the ball to put any points on the board. The final scoring of the match was another try to Northland North making the final score 0-29, just as the rain was finally stopping. Brave efforts in the terrible conditions were again had by Evan Williams and Ned Barry on the tackling fronts.

10th September vs Auckland Central - Harvey Wright

Harbour 10 vs Auckland Central 27

3rd September vs Auckland East - Waitemata Park

Harbour 0 vs. Auckland East 24

Game Comments:

The North Harbour Under 14 Cardinal team turned up for their first game of the representative season and were quickly on defence. It was only through excellent tackling
and defence by the entire team that they team kept a clean score sheet in the first half. After absorbing 15 minutes of strong attack Petar Percakovski pounced on
some lose ball and was only run down just short of the try line !  For the remainder of the half the Habour side attack the Auckland line but the Auckland defence
was also strong. The Harbour side did have one shot at goal (the only one by either side in the half ) but unfortunately that missed so the half time score
was 0-0. The mandatory player subs were made at half time and Auckland again started the the second half strongly and quickly crossed for 2 tries, one of which
they converted. To the Harbours side credit they never gave up and again pushed hard on attack. A little against the run of play Auckland broke out mid way
through the half and scored their third try. The match scoring was completed with Auckland crossing for one more converted try. The match finally ended with Harbour
again pressing hard on the Auckland try line but the stout Auckland defence kept the boys out for a final score line of 0-24. Player of the day Evan Williams was tireless
in his attacking, scrummage work and tackling. He was ably assisted by Ben McMillan and Gwyllym Leslie in the forwards and in the backs strong games were
had by Tim Carter, Rory Taylor and Ned Barry was excellent at the back with everything he was asked to do.
