Game Highlights:

In our final hit out for the week we faced our preseason partners Counties – Manukau. In both preseason hit outs CM gave us a real touch up however today was a new day. CM started well and literally camped in our 22 for 15 minutes until finally their slick midfield combo broke our defenses. They did so three times before the break with Harbour managing one try to keep in the game. However after a half time honesty session Harbour came out on fire scoring in the first minute of the second half. Not long later they scored again putting themselves right back into it. Just when Harbour felt they had it, once again, for the third time in the tournament a runaway try against the run of play put CM too far out to catch. With a consolation try on full time North Harbour came agonisingly close to  lifting the Spraggon Cup, but it was not to be with the final score being 26-22 to Counties – Manukau. The players loved their Roller Mills experience and the Coaches were extremely proud of their efforts. Roller Mills is not for the faint-hearted player or supporter but the 2016 group of athletes did the North Harbour Rugby union proud, finishing sixth above Waikato, Taranaki, King Country and Thames Valley. There are many more victories at Roller Mills tournaments than those won on the park.

Game Highlights:

Everyone knew a Waikato-North Harbour battle was going to be big and that’s exactly how things turned out. With tournament rankings well and truly at stake this too was a must win game for both teams. Waikato started the better of the two teams scoring first with multiple phases and eventually breaking the Harbour defenses. Just when Waikato looked to be dominating across the park, Harbour’s Lamont Palmer did what he’s done all week and drove over for our first try, which was converted just before half time.  Harbour then decided to change down a gear and apply pressure upon Waikato until finally they capitulated and Harbour scored twice more through Tomas Heard and Truman Cuff. Harbour took the points 17-10 meaning a 5th – 6th play off tomorrow with Counties.

Games Highlights:

Harbour prepared well again as they knew playing the host team was going to be tough. Taranaki came out swinging and scored the first 7 pointer through total possession for the first 8 minutes. Harbour weathered the storm, reset and launched their game plan to excellent effect. By half time it was 24 – 7 to Harbour. The second half proved more difficult for Harbour with only one try scored due to Taranaki strengthening their defenses. The game finished at 34-7 to Harbour. Our try scorers today were Hunter Cuff (2), Lamont Palmer (2), Max Fuller, Hunter Rice, and Clyton Kotze kicked two conversions.

Game #3 - 28th September vs. Auckland East - Yarrow Stadium

Full-time score: Harbour 5 v Auckland East 42 (Half-time 0-21)

Game Highlights:

Playing against an inform Auckland East is always a huge ask for any Roller Mills team. North Harbour were still licking their wounds from the Auckland West hit out 24 hours earlier but managed to regroup and put 110% effort against East. East are a team of athletes and deserve their success, and Harbour simply could not compete out wide. In the forwards Harbour had the ascendancy and drove East around the park. However when an error was made East converted them into 7 points. The final result was 42-5 to East.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

In near perfect conditions North Harbour faced off against Auckland West today. West came in as favourites but North Harbour had other ideas, weathering the early storm then getting up to a 17-5 lead at half time. West came back and the teams traded blows until finally West took it away 27-24 with an injury time try. Heart break for the Harbour boys but they remain in excellent spirit heading into a battle against Auckland East tomorrow.

Our try scorers today were Hunter Cuff, Osten Sietu, Etienne Piere. Clayton Kotze kicked two conversions, including one from the side line that we thought had won the game.

Game Highlights:

On a heavy track North Harbour started really well and maintained their dominance throughout. The North Harbour forwards dominated King Country and that showed with the majority of tris coming from the forward pack. King Country did not give in and managed to score a couple of late tries which were well earned. For North Harbour there were tries to;

Zack Robertson, Will Evans, Lamont Palmer (2) Etienne Piere, John Steel, Jordan Treatwell and Matthew Elliment. Six of the trys were converted by Hunter Rice (2), Clayton Kotze, Truman Cuff (3).  A great start to the campaign but a lot of water to flow under the bridge yet.

Roller Mills Team

Congratulations to the following boys who have been selected to take the next step in their young rugby careers to represent North Harbour Rugby Union in the 2016 Northern Roller Mills Tournament.

The journey and hard work begins now for these boys as we prepare for the Northern Roller Mills Tournament in Taranaki, beginning on the 25th September 2016.

We would also like to thank the players that made it to the final trials but end their journey with us today.  Without you we would not have been able to select such a strong squad, you are all very talented rugby players and we wish you well.

We will meet at the Takapuna Rugby Club on Wednesday 27th July at 6:00pm.

Well done from the coaching team; Tony, Darren, Shane, Greg and Paul.
