22nd September vs Northland B - Toll Stadium

Harbour 16 (Blake Hall try; David Halaufia 1 conv & 3 pen.

Northland 38

Game Comments:

Harbour B’s final encounter with Northland B at Toll Stadium was always going to be a cracker.

The final bus trip to Whangarei plus the SOS call to the Mahurangi front specialist Ray Beamish was a sign of relief for the coaches but more important ray had 30mins to get ready as the bus was only 10k away passing through Warkworth.

Two former Harbour players had jumped ship to go north and we would like to finish our season on a high. Northland’s dominance right from kick off and there home town advantage took affect right from start.

Our Harbour forwards threw everything at Northland during the first 40min , Dylan Masters made lots metres, followed by Kima Iosua. David Hala’ufia added 3 penalties before half time with Northland’s 17 points.

Blake Hall’s perfect try after half time and Hala’ufia conversion wasn’t going to be enough to put any pressure on the Taniwha’s. The Taniwha’s continued to run riot and the points started to add up. It wasn’t a lack of Harbour trying but they just couldn’t finish strongly , we were totally beaten on the paddock and full credit the Northland team, that was one of the best B’s teams we have ever seen come out of the north.

Final score Harbour B 16 – Northland B 38.

Player of the Day – Kima Iosua.

Special Thank you to Northland Rugby for hosting us, always special to play a curtain raiser.

18th September vs Waikato B - Waikato Stadium

Harbour 14 (Daniel Lee try; David Halaufia 3 pen

Waikato 20

Game Comments:

The Bus trip to Waikato Stadium with Sione’s Wedding our pre match entertainment on board our Ritchie’s coach, was a smooth journey south.

Both teams having similar campaigns so pretty much a must win match between both unions.

Both teams from kick off were throwing the ball wide with Waikato putting early pressure on the Hibiscus men. With the numerous opportunities from both teams only 1 point could separate these teams at half time. David ‘Fulla’ Hala’ufia managed 3 penalties with Waikato’s two tries.

The last 40mins Harbour had a lot of ball but finished short each time, but a fantastic kick and chase from Nathan Cargo 50mins out and with Daniel Lee’s speed managed to scoop it up and run 30mins to score … share brilliance. That was time on the clock with Waikato taking the match 20-14.

It was good match to watch all 30 players playing entertaining footy.

Special Thank you to Waikato Rugby hosting us and very special to play a curtain raiser at Waikato Stadium.

Player of the Day – Blake Hall.

10th September vs Bay Of Plenty - Windsor Park

Harbour 38 vs. BOP 15

3rd September vs Auckland Colts - Colin Maiden Park

Harbour 24 (Nathan Cargo, Daniel Lee tries; David Hala'ufia conv & 4 pen)

Auckland Colts 30

Game Comments:

Harbour B’s travelled to Colin Maiden Park where another Battle of the Bridge took place. This was the Auckland Colts and we knew this team was going to be another step up with a lot of pace…
Heading into half time Harbour had a commanding lead 24-10 . Everything spoken about at training during week was about Defence and Discipline and line speed will get us over the line. Some fantastic team work in the first 40min, great runs up field , using the width, and the shape was looking brilliant and things looked very much in Harbours favour. A yellow card before half time gave a Auckland a sniff but we managed to keep them out.

Tries to Nathan Cargo, Daniel Lee, David Hala’ufia 4 Penalties , 1 Con. Hala’ufia contributed 14 points

We often talk about a game of two halves, that certainly started that way for Auckland. Some crucial decisions by the gentlemen with the whistle started to play of the Harbour player’s minds, and from that two yellow cards were handed out … 13 players at one point became very frustrating. In that time Auckland bounce back and managed to stay in front.
Harbour had a few chances within Auckland’s 22, but the slight drizzle became too tough to get that ball wide and clinch the match.
We certainly didn’t give up but very disappointed by all the crew. Being wounded and what if … should be enough fire in the belly for this week’s fixture against Bay of Plenty at Windsor Park.

The FINAL SCORE – HARBOUR 24 – AUCKLAND COLTS 30.

Player of the Day – Dylan Masters

A special thank you to Auckland Rugby and the University rugby club for hosting the Harbour B’s.

27th August vsTaranaki - Windsor Park

Harbour 26 (Callum Law, Daniel Hilton-Jones tries; Daniel Lee 2 convs; Callum Law 4 pens)

Taranaki 35

Game Comments:

The Harbour B’s second Fixture and hosting Taranaki at Windsor Park was going to put their campaign back on track. Right from kick off the Hibiscus men  showed that we mean business. After 10mins Harbour took a 10 point lead into the wind and showed some great defence and positive ball control. Daniel Hilton- Jones linked with the backs with some great passing to dot down with Daniel Lee adding the extras.

Taranaki from kick off used the wind to their advantage and showed what it’s all about playing catch up. There share size, and strong ball carries started to take control and leading into half time, the boys from the Naki had a slender 10-14 lead.

Harbour’s second half with the tail wind should have been the platform to secure the lead back with Callum Law racking up the penalty count as Harbour continued to grab early points. We got momentum but the finishing touches weren’t going our way , with some yellow cards which didn’t help things.

Taranaki started to dominated and control match with three very good tries and we always say defence wins games, but as the match went on we started to lose our shape. In the closing stages with this pressure match Callum Law once again showed slick foot work to grab 5 points and a Daniel Lee  conversion.

Our points for the day came from Daniel Hilton- Jones, Callum Law tries, Daniel Lee 2 Conversions, Callum Law 4 Penalties.

Player of the Day - Glenn Preston.

Final Score Harbour B 26 – Taranaki 35.

Thank you ECB Rugby club for hosting this fixture.

20th August vs Auckland - Windsor Park

Harbour 21 (Jody Allen try; Callum Law 2 tries & 3 convs).

Auckland 51

Game Comments:

After a disappointing start the Harbour B’s showed glimpses of what they can do with ball in hand.

They managed 3 tries against Auckland but their defence let them down. Connor Collett was player of the day doing what he does best, being a nuisance around the field. Callum Law contributed 17 points, with 2 tires, 3 conversions, the little fella showed size doesn’t matter against the big boys across the bridge.  In the last 20 mins, the former ITM cup player, Jody Allen came on and showed off his raging bull runs with a nice try towards the end.

The story of the rugby – Defence Wins Games. Final result 21 – 51 .

Special thank you to ECB Rugby for hosting this fixture
