MEDIA RELEASE: 2020 Mitre 10 Cup Draw Released

As rugby returns to the field, New Zealand Rugby have officially confirmed the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup draw.

Harbour Rugby will again field a side in the Mitre 10 Cup Premiership, with continued aspirations to develop existing and new squad members. Head coach Kieran Keane is aware that fans, players and administrators have been starved of rugby with the postponement of competitions due to Covid-19.

“Now that we have the draw confirmed, we are excited about the new year, and the new season. We are an aspirational Union with a focus on connecting with our clubs and people. We are excited about representing our community and commercial partners through this competition.

From a rugby standpoint we are looking to carry on producing quality representative players, as we did in 2019. Introducing 13 new players from our community was a key part of our strategy to be a thriving and sustainable Provincial Union. Carrying on from the previous season, and to evolve the squad further in 2020 is a strong focus”.

QBE Harbour and Crusaders halfback Bryn Hall echoed his coach’s sentiment. “I love playing for Harbour.  We have a strong culture where playing for our community and families is important.  I’m looking forward to putting the jersey back on later in the year”.

North Harbour Stadium will serve as the base for both the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup squads once again. With 5 Mitre 10 Cup matches scheduled to be played in Albany; including the season opener on Friday September 11 against Canterbury, which also doubles as the competition opener.

Another notable evening game is the Saturday night ‘Battle of the Bridge’ on October 24 against old foes Auckland. In a favorable draw that aligns with Harbour’s continued family focus, QBE Harbour are anticipating strong support with the three afternoon games against Tasman, Hawkes Bay and Counties Manukau respectfully.

The Farah Palmer Cup 2020 draw is still yet to be confirmed, with some players currently participating in the Auckland Premier 15s competition. The FPC squad will look towards 2020 being a step up, as QBE Harbour performances could assist in higher representation, and the upcoming 2021 Rugby World Cup.

The 2020 Mitre 10 Cup comprises a 10-week round robin leading to semi-finals for the top four teams in the premiership and championship on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21, with the Finals the following weekend.
